Sustainability

Sustainable Development Goals

The SDGs are a United Nations call to action for all countries in the world – rich and poor – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet from climate change. They lay the foundation for ending poverty, with strategies that both develop economic growth and address a range of social needs, such as education, health, social protection and employment.

In 2022, we entered the United Nations-recognized UNITAR-CIFAL VCDO pathway to work on our sustainability under guidance and training.

The goal is to make TadBlu a proven sustainable brand and product, doing our part to make the funeral industry more sustainable, and to provide those who are mourning the loss of a loved one with a sustainable piece of memory jewelry.

To determine our actions, we look at our stakeholders, their interests and the impact we can make. Stakeholders include our employees, distributors and suppliers, funeral directors, as well as the planet and its inhabitants.

There are 5 central objectives within TadBlu:
  • SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
  • SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production: ensure sustainable consumption and production methods.
  • SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, ensure access for all and create effective, accountable and open institutions at all levels
  • SDG 17: Partnership to Achieve Goals: Revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
  • SDG 5: Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls.
The intention of the UN sustainability goals is that it is a continuous process in which companies and institutions ultimately develop actions on all 17 goals.

Efforts towards our SDG Pioneer Certificate

In 2023, we hope to receive the SDG Pioneer Certificate in recognition of our sustainability efforts. Below are some of the themes we are working on and our achievements since 2018:

Start with Yourself

We managed to make the TadBlu premises energy neutral, using solar panels, a battery and good insulation.
We reduced our water consumption by 60% with a 10,000-liter rainwater barrel.

Inclusive Personnel Policy

TadBlu wants to be a company, where everyone can feel at home and where everyone should enjoy working. Our people are the most important capital. Great attention is therefore paid to diversity, equality and inclusion.

Gender equality for Women

One of our spearheads in terms of sustainability is wanting to promote gender equality, and specifically the position of women worldwide in the labor market. To this end, in recent years we have set up a social project in the Netherlands in which refugee women who are granted residency status assemble our bracelets. In this project, they are trained by us in assembling fine jewelry, coaches help them with labor integration and they get a language buddy. In this way we help them in a fine way to full employment.

Responsible Manufacturing

Ever since TadBlu was founded, we have been determined to make TadBlu a responsible brand and product. Good quality is the most important thing for our customers. We have made sure that a TadBlu Jewelry is a 100% EU product: all components come from European (family) companies. Already in 2020 we passed an audit at Customs from which we obtained an Export License Of EU Preferential Origin

Conflict-Free Steel & Gold

When you think about the well-being of the earth, you also think about the well-being, health and safety of the people who live there.
Since 2019, we have been working with suppliers who use certified conflict-free stainless steel and conflict-free gold to make our jewelry components.

Not OK is not OK

In evaluating our sustainability, we also looked at the provenance of our semi-precious stones for our rings and pendants. Although they were beautiful, for our 2023 collection we chose to remove the kyanite, black rutile quartz and gold rutile quartz from the range.

Transport Miles Account for 21% Of Global CO2 Emissions

Because our products are made in Europe, jewelry within our largest market (EU) travels countless fewer kilometers on its way to the consumer. On average about 8,000 kilometers less per piece of jewelry. These are important figures when the funeral industry wants to choose to buy more sustainably. Finally, we currently send 20% of our packages with DHL Go Green We are in talks with our partner DHL to work toward making it possible for every customer to have TadBlu jewelry shipped more sustainably with DHL Go Green.

Together we achieve more

A key factor for achieving the EU’s sustainability goals is collaboration with stakeholders. At TadBlu we have made it a point to have a personal dialogue with our distributors, funeral directors and suppliers.

By talking to each other we can inspire and support each other to make the (funeral) world a little more sustainable.

The future: A Sustainable choice

We are very proud of all that we have already achieved in terms of sustainability, but of course it doesn’t stop here!

After achieving the SDG Pioneer Certificate, we will continue for the SDG Champion Certificate and eventually – before 2030 – the SDG Ambassadorship.

Thus, we have plans to further expand our HR policies until we can earn the Great Place to Work label. We also want to expand our workforce to include permanent employees with disabilities. Call it positive discrimination, we believe that’s okay.

Our social project we would like to expand with more training, coaching and more participants from 25% of our jewelry today to 100% of our jewelry within 3 years.

We want to be able to calculate and demonstrate the carbon footprint for our raw materials and products. This is what we are going to study and start a research in the coming year.

In this way we hope to achieve in the coming years that TadBlu is a proven sustainable choice for your memory jewelry.

We will keep you informed!’
